Why GMAC redesigned the GMAT
In 2024, GMAC released the GMAT Focus Edition, the biggest redesign in the exam’s history. The goal: create a shorter, more focused test that better reflects the skills needed in today’s MBA programs — analytical reasoning, data literacy, and critical thinking. The result is a test that is 52 minutes shorter, has removed outdated question types, and includes a new integrated section called Data Insights.

Classic GMAT (old): Included geometry — “What is the area of triangle ABC with base 6 and height 4?”
GMAT Focus (new): Focuses on arithmetic and algebra — “What is the remainder when \( 7^{2025} \) is divided by 5?”
Solution: 7 mod 5 = 2. Powers of 2 mod 5 cycle every 4: 2→4→3→1. 2025 ÷ 4 = 506 remainder 1 → remainder 2.
